Stained Glass
Light and glass, like in photography, are what make this medium special. The physicality and motion, the painstaking detail to carve each piece, and the ultimate sunlight explosion that brings the art to life - these are a few things I love about stained glass.

Okamoto’s “Ukiyo-e Today” (2021)
Inspired by Okamoto Ryusei’s “Ukiyo-e Today”, this piece utilizes antique glass (hand-blown and hand rolled glass) from 1950-70s Germany and France, as well as newer glass made by Fremont Glass (based out of Seattle, WA). To work with this glass is a unique experience, as I feel strangley connected to the artisans that made the glass as it transforms.

The Devil’s Crags (2023)
The Crags loom above LeConte and Deer Meadow in the High Sierra. Jagged, brutal, and inaccessible unless you’re into death cults, their shapes inspire awe and fear alike. The bright granite in these parts reflect and refract the endless light beams shining from the sun. Colors abound. Behold the radiance. Choose it all.

Cardinal (2021)
Inspired by its namesake and more, this commissioned piece took a life of its own. The High Sierra, the intense labor of trail crews building and rebuilding rocky trails, and the vibrancy of the high country in the summer months all came out as I allowed an improvisation to take hold.

Whenever I bodyboard, I am introduced to a new shades of blue and green. When a wave pounds and holds me down, I open my eyes under water to find which way is up. I move from pitch-black to blue, to green, to gold, to blinding sunlight. The sweetest blues are found when plunging deep into a pit when the wave obscures the sunlight. Blenko and Fremont glass make up this jellyfish.

Ain’t No Big Thing (2024)
Grace Jones is an artist that we all can learn a thing or two from. When a friend approached me about this commission, I knew it was going to be a wild ride. Grace is made of Fremont and German antique glass, the sky is Fremont and Kokomo. The buildings German antique. Her lips selenium.

The Hoh (2024)
The Hoh. This is a world like no other - giant grandmother trees, ancient fungi networks, rotting salmon on the banks, towering glaciers and craggy peaks. All on one trail. Another trail crew commission. Grateful for these places and the people who work them.

The Hermit (2020)
An evolution of one of my darkroom prints, The Hermit is an ode to a special peak in the High Sierra. Staring across Evolution Basin at the higher peaks named after famed evolution theorists, The Hermit offers a space to contemplate the manner, and lengths some have gone to explain the origin of life itself.

Will consider offers; but I kinda love having it around.
